Education in Haskell
As a further example of Haskell’s progressive stance, the DCOH works with Vernon College in Vernon, TX to bring college classes to Haskell. Haskell is now a year-round extension center for Vernon College and offers several courses. These college-level classes are also open to high school students after their sophomore year and provides them the opportunity to get a head start on their freshman year of college. There are also opportunities with Cisco College and Western Texas College to earn college credit.

How many public school systems can brag about the consistent quality of its teachers, facilities and academic results? The schools in Haskell are perhaps the main source of civic pride and for good reason. By keeping ever vigilant and involved, the parents of Haskell oversee a school system that has produced generation after generation of successful graduates.

The Haskell Consolidated Independent School District (CISD) is governed by a seven member board and a superintendent. The district offers a full range of academic, technical and vocational courses including gifted, special education and advance placement courses.

Because of the small enrollment and very low student to teacher ratio, Haskell schools can make a big difference in a student’s acceptance, self-esteem, confidence and academic success. Other than an exemplary well-rounded education, opportunities abound for leadership roles in clubs, athletic teams and extracurricular activities. And of course, students are encouraged to take advantage of higher-level academic classes.

Contrary to larger cities, the atmosphere in Haskell schools is conducive to learning. Its safe, orderly environment and high expectations promote educational achievement and excellence. At Haskell CISD, it’s a pride thing.

Haskell adults have a real, deep-seated sense of responsibility to the town’s youth. Academics, athletic and extra-curricular activities enjoy the support and encouragement of all citizens. In Haskell’s public schools, your children will learn skills that will make them productive citizens for the 21st century.

“The neat thing you get here, in the Haskell education system, is that anyone can teach what’s in a book. But in Haskell, your child gets a set of values to go with it.” – Nelda Lane, former Co-Owner/Operator of radio station KVRP and mother of five Haskell High graduates. All five are also college graduates.
